-
Yes. You can place as many bids as you want, at different prices and different quantities. All bids are collected in a single order. Each customer account is allowed one order. For more info on placing bids, see the instructions on the product page for the trading cards you’d like to buy.
-
Most releases on zerocool will be sold as a box or case but the units available for bidding will be decided on a product-by-product basis.
-
Our goal is to let you know ASAP after the auction closes if you’ve won or not, but it will likely take a few business days.
-
Yes, you may cancel a bid up until the auction closes. Once the auction closes, bids may not be cancelled. This is because the moment the auction ends, the process begins to identify the clearing price. This will ensure that the winning bidders are charged the correct amount. (See How Does a Blind Dutch Auction Work? for more details.)
-
We prepare your product for shipment, which can take up to four weeks. Once it’s ready to be shipped, you will receive an email with shipping information. Keep an eye on your inbox (and check your spam folder just in case!).
-
zerocool accepts all major credit cards.
-
We do not accept BTC or ETH or SOL or any cryptocurrency. Yet.
-
We don’t set maximums. We don’t set minimums. We don’t set guidelines. We don’t even set the temperature in our house. You do you, but your credit card will need to hold whatever amount you bid.
-
Yes. A hold is placed on your credit card equal to the maximum amount you could possibly owe. This amount will be clearly shown before you place your bid. That hold will remain in effect for the duration of the auction and until the winners have been selected. Once the auction has closed, your card will either be charged for the products you’ve won or the hold will be removed.
Please allow for 2-5 business days for your hold to be erased from your statement after you cancel a bid or the auction is over. Timelines will vary depending on your banking institution.
-
After the auction ends, the clearing price is set. The winners will be identified and your card will be charged for the full amount of the products you’ve won, including taxes and shipping costs. This will typically happen within three business days following the end of the auction. Most of the time, you will win the product for less than what you bid! Estimated Hold
“Estimated hold” is the maximum amount you will owe if you win at any clearing price. This total does not include taxes or shipping costs. Those are calculated at the end, once we have your shipping address and payment information. Please note: You will have a chance to see the total cost of the credit card hold, including both shipping and taxes, before you finalize your bid.
Why doesn’t the estimated hold match the total cost of all my bids added together?
The hold amount is the maximum that you might owe which is based on a formula that identifies the maximum amount of product that you might win at the highest price. For example, imagine if you place two bids:
- Bid 1: 1 box at $1,000
- Bid 2: 1 box at $500
Depending on the clearing price, there is a chance that you will have only one winning bid. In this case, the maximum you might owe is $1,000 regardless of whether you win only one bid (if the clearing price is set at $1,000) or if you win both bids (the clearing price is set at $500). If you’re still not clear how a blind Dutch auction works, read this .
What is a credit card hold?
A credit card hold is different from a credit card charge. When a hold is authorized, the card issuer guarantees the funds and the amount is held on the customer’s card for up to 7 days. There is no charge until the auction closes. If you’ve won, then your card will be charged based on the clearing price–likely for a total amount less than the original hold. If you’ve lost, the funds will be released from zerocool within 24 hours of the auction close. It then takes 2-5 business days, depending on your banking institution, to see the hold disappear from your statement.
What is a blind dutch auction?
At zerocool we may use a Blind Dutch Auction to sell certain products. So, what exactly does that mean?
First, in a Blind Dutch Auction no one can see anyone else’s bids. That way, bidders decide the value of the product and how much they are willing to pay for each “unit” of a product. As such, our users ultimately set the price.
Unlike a traditional auction where only the highest bidder wins, a blind Dutch auction works by matching the highest bids to the quantity of product available. For example, if we are selling 100 units then the top 100 bids will win, and the lowest bid within the top 100 bids will become the “clearing price” that all 100 bidders would then pay for each of the 100 units sold.
How It Works
-
Bid on a box or a case
Once an auction goes live, you can bid whatever price you'd like to pay, for any quantity of product you'd like. And you can place multiple bids at multiple price points. Users have the listed number of days to place their bid (all blind, of course, so no one has any knowledge of what other people are offering).
-
Submit your bid
Once you're done placing all of your bids and you submit your order, we'll place a temporary hold on your payment method on file for the total amount you're on the hook for. Only when the auction ends and we determine if you've won or lost will we then finalize the payment.
-
Auction ends and the final clearing price is determined
When the auction ends, we match the highest bids with the amount of product we have for sale. The lowest “winning” bid then sets the price for every bid above it. That becomes the “clearing price", which is the the single price that every winner pays.
-
Win or lose, we'll let you know
Based on the clearing price, we'll let you know if you win or lose. If you bid $50/box for 2 boxes and the clearing price ends up at $40/box, you only pay the clearing price and you'll be charged a total of $80. But if you bid $30/box, you lose and you won't be charged anything at all.
-
Wow, you really want to know how this works. Great. Here are some more details:
- When two or more users have bid at the clearing price and there is not sufficient product for each such user, the user who bid earliest wins.
- If a user bids at the clearing price, it is possible that the user will not receive all of the units that they requested to buy at that price. Priority typically goes to the bidders who bid above the clearing price and then to bidders who bid the earliest, except as otherwise stated at the point of sale.
- Once the clearing price is determined, users are automatically charged for the product on which they have bid at or above the clearing price.
- Most product will ship within 4 weeks of the determination of the clearing price. Users will be notified when their product has been shipped.
- A user that wants to bid for multiple products can only bid one amount, i.e., the amount that the user is willing to pay for each product and not for the total number of products on which they are bidding.
- zerocool reserves the right to sell any amount of product, regardless of the amount of product listed for sale; if a product is part of a numbered edition, zerocool will not sell more of such product than indicated.
- zerocool reserves the right to cancel an auction at any time and for any reason.
- zerocool reserves the right to not sell to any user, regardless of whether such user has submitted a winning bid, in zerocool’s sole discretion.
- zerocool may ban any user that zerocool suspects to have evaded, or to have attempted to evade, any rules applicable to a particular auction.
